NewsNewsBehind Van Der Wyk's 3rd, Women's X-Country Advances To State As TeamRarely does one runner have as much impact as Tracee Van Der Wyk made for the Pasadena City College women's cross country team on Friday at the Southern California Championships. Van Der Wyk's All-Region sixth place finish catapulted the Lancers to reach their first team appearance at the CCCAA state meet in eight years. Women's X-Country Van Der Wyk 3rd At SCC Finals: Highest PCC Finish Of DecadeTracee Van Der Wyk accomplished something Saturday that hadn't been done previously this decade in Pasadena City College women's cross country. The freshman took third place individually and recorded the highest finish by a Lancer in more than 10 years at the South Coast Conference Championships held at the Whittier Narrows Legg Lake course. Women's X-Country's Van Der Wyk Excels In 13th At Mt. SAC InviteTracee Van Der Wyk ran 13th overall out of 272 runners in placing the Pasadena City College women's cross country freshman among the state's top racers at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational held October 16. PCC Women's X-Country 5th At Brubaker InvitationalThe Pasadena City College women's cross country team ran to a fifth place finish out of 11 scoring teams at the Howard Brubaker Invitational in Orange County held October 10. Men X-Country's Ernesto Rodriguez Takes 6th At Bakersfield InvitationalAfter consistently racing as the Pasadena City College men's cross country team top runner last year, Ernesto Rodriguez had a quiet beginning to his sophomore season. In his third meet this year, Rodriguez rose to the occasion by finishing in sixth place individually at the Bakersfield Invitational held October 2. Women's Cross Country Runner Van Der Wyk 24th At UCR InvitePasadena City College women's cross country runner Tracee Van Der Wyk (pictured) raced to 24th overall in the 5-kilomer open race at the UC Riverside Invitational Sept. 19. Van Der Wyk's time of 19 minutes, 21.3 seconds was 13th among runners from college teams in a race that featured 166 competitors overall. PCC Cross Country Teams Start SeasonThe Pasadena City College women's and men's cross country teams opened the 2009 schedule by racing in the Fullerton Season Opener meet at Fullerton Municipal Golf Course Sept. 5. The Lancers women placed 19th out of 26 teams, but most of the field was made up of 4-year university squads. |
