The plaza in the Sculpture Garden on the Pasadena City College
campus will be named for local real estate developer Bill
Galloway. He is an active member of the Pasadena City College
Foundation and currently serves on the Foundation's executive
board.
Galloway will provide the college with a major gift to
the Sculpture Garden fundraising campaign. "This
is an opportunity for me to give back to the community
and the college, both of which are a big part of my life,"
said Galloway during a visit to the campus. "The
plaza will be a great art space and central gathering
place for events that the college and the public will
enjoy for many years to come."
PCC President Dr. James Kossler voiced the college's enthusiasm
for Galloway's generosity. "The college is particularly
honored to receive this gift, which ad, al HXS the fundraising
for the Sculpture Garden project," he stated. "The
Galloways' $100,000 gift is an historic contribution to
Pasadena City College, and it brings us ever closer to
our goal of raising $1.3 million to provide a public art
space for world-class sculpture on the PCC campus."
Galloway has been a resident of the Pasadena area for many
years and is a graduate of Pasadena City College. He has
spent his professional life investing in and developing
real estate.
Galloway feels that PCC is one of the best community colleges
in the nation, and he enjoys his continuing relationship
with PCC through the Foundation. He is an avid art collector
and enjoys landscaping as a hobby. Galloway said that
the naming of the plaza combines his personal interests-giving
to the community and offering the public the opportunity
to see art in an open environment.
The Sculpture Garden, funded by private Donations from individuals
and foundations from throughout the region, has three
major components: the plaza, the main garden, and the
amphitheater. The main garden has been named the George
and Fern Boone Sculpture Garden by Dr. George Boone in
memory of his parents. The amphitheater has yet to be
named.
