Pasadena City College students have an opportunity
to nominate PCC faculty members for the Risser Outstanding
Teacher Award, presented annually to a PCC faculty
member. The recipient will receive $1,000 cash and
the Outstanding teacher Recognition Plaque.
CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD INCLUDE:
1. Quality of Instruction.
2. Inspiration to Student's.
3. Fair, Understandable Evaluation and Grading.
4. Loyalty to the College and to our Country.
5. Number of times teacher was nominated.
IN ADDITION, THE NOMINEE MUST BE A REGULAR, FULL-TIME
(TENURE TRACK) TEACHER AND MAY NOT HAVE WON THE
AWARD PREVIOUSLY.
We present the award at the last faculty meeting
of the year. The faculty member is also acknowledged
at the final faculty breakfast and at our graduation
ceremonies. There is considerable publicity on
campus and in the community for the receipt of
this award and there seems to be a wide sharing
of positive attitudes surrounding this event.

The money for this award comes from an endowment
by the Risser family, two members of which served
as faculty members and administrators at PCC in
years past. Sufficient money is also provided to
have engraved acknowledgments on a large plague
which hangs permanently in our hall and also to
present each winner with his/her own smaller plague
acknowledging their excellence in teaching award.
Selection of the winners made by a committee composed
of past winners, faculty all, and Dr. Joe Risser
who spends considerable time weighing the "evidence'
supplied by students in the form of letters and
others statements that accompany the 50 required
signatures. |
