Dr. Robbins had a long and vital career at Hill and Colorado.
In 1923, she was a business education teacher
at Pasadena High School. With the creation
of Pasadena Junior College in 1924, she became
a charter PJC faculty member, teaching business
education and math. In 1931, she was appointed
Dean of Women, a post she held for many years.
(From 1941-1957 she was in charge of the selection
of the Rose Queen and her Court, an honor
bestowed on PCC students only.) In 1950, she
became Dean of Curriculum (Assistant Principal),
and in 1959 she was named President of the
college.
During her term as president, she was one
of only two women junior college presidents
in America. At the time, PCC was the second-largest
junior college in the country.
1959 - Dr. Robbins was named "Woman
of the Year" in education by the Los
Angeles Times.
Throughout her career at PJC/PCC, Dr. Robbins
chose to live in local hotels rather than
in a home of her own, because, as she said,
"it elminates housekeeping.'' She resided
in the Green Hotel, the Huntington, the Maryland,
and several others.
1963 - A $5 million building plan was
initiated for the completion of the several
campus buildings which were under construction
at the time. Addtionally, a new 5-story classroon
building and a vocational building were begun.
"One of the most satisfactory parts
of my job is seeing every day at least some
of the men and women who are my former students
and are now the active, leading--perhaps constructive
is the better word--citizens of our community."
