Dr. Scott came to PCC from Cypress College, where he had served
as President for nine years. Previously, he had
been a faculty member and administrator at Pepperdine
University and Dean of Instruction at Orange Coast
College.
1988 - Passage of Assembly Bill 1725, a
wide-sweeping reform of the state Education Code
as it relates to Community Colleges in the areas
of curriculum, governance, finance, new programs/services,
affirmative action, employment, etc.
1988-94 - The actual contributions
to the PCC Foundation totalled $7.5 million.
1989 - The Paramedical-Sciences Building
(U Building) was officially rededicated and named
for former PCC President Dr. Armen Sarafian.
Undertaking the first major campus construction
in more than 15 years, Dr. Scott initiated a 10-year,
$100 million facilities Master Plan, to rebuild
or renovate a number of campus buildings:
In 1991, ground was broken for a new Library and Media Services facility; the
$18 million building was completed in 1993 and
named in honor of Walter T. Shatford II, who has
served on the PCC Board of Trustees since its
inception in 1966.
Completed in 1995, the new 5-level, 2000+ space
parking structure has finally solved the decades-old
problem of inadequate student parking. A new facility
to house the programs of the present Community
Skills Center is currently under construction
in northeas Pasadena; when it is completed in
1996, it will be known as the Community Education
Center. Also under construction is a new Child
Development Center near the main campus. In addition
to meeting the child care needs of PCC and CEC
students, the center will be a lab for Early Childhood
Development students. Future projects include
renovation of the old Library Building, construction
of a new physical education/athletics facility,
and a Sculpture Garden.
1991 - As it looked to the next century, PCC adopted a new logo to represent
the college. It features an abstracted symbol
representing the front of the C Building and the
Mirror Pools, over the name Pasadena City College.
1995 - Dr. Scott will be leaving PCC to
assume the post of Distinguished Professor of
Higher Education at Pepperdine University.
"Success stories (from former students)
make Pasadena City College the treasure that it
is for this community. The end result is changed
lives--lives that through new knowledge and skills
are empowered economically and personally to become
productive citizens in this society."
