World War II

As a result of the manpower shortage, a new type of work-school program, the Four-Four plan, was inaugurated through the co-operation o f the Pasadena and Burbank school systems and the Lockheed-Vega Corporation. This plan enabled sixteen and seventeen year old boys to spend four weeks in school and then four weeks on the production line. Under the direction of Axel Kvorning, the boys were graded and given full credit for their work in aircraft production. Before becoming a part of this program, it was necessary for a boy to have maintained a satisfactory school record and for him to have his parents' approval. This plan not only helped our nation at a time of great need, but it also offered the individual boy valuable experience in shop and production work.
