Weekend College Student GuideThe Weekend College ProgramThe PCC Weekend College program is a new way to complete an Associate in ARts degree at PCC and then transfer to Cal State LA as a Business Administration major or into the Teacher Preparation Program. It is designed so that people who work full time or who have family responsibilities can take a complete sequence of transfer-level courses by attending college during part of their weekend. Length of ProgramWeekend College is not an accelerated program, but it is intense. All Courses meet Friday nights between 6 and 10 p.m., and Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (Hours may vary depending on the course, but classes will meet every weekend and, occasionally, on other evenings.) In order to complete the full program, students must take from two to three paired courses per semester for approximately two-and-one-half years (five semesters-with two winter intersessions and three summers). Courses toward the degree are offered in the Weekend College Sequence, but students may enter the sequence at the beginning of any semester. NOTE: Courses in the program are open to any eligible PCC student. Enrollment in the full program is not required for enrollment in any one session of courses. PrerequisitesStudents wishing to enroll in Weekend College courses will be assessed in both English and mathematics. Students must meet the prerequisite for English 1A: satisfactory performance on the English placement test or completion of English 100 with a C grade or better. Students must also meet the prerequisites for the Business Administration Major math courses: Math 125 and/or a qualifying score on an algebra test. For the Teacher Preparation Program, students must meet the prerequisite for Math 15: Math 131 or placement based on the math assessment process. See the PCC catalog for additional options to met these prerequisites. For your convenience, the above prerequisites will also be offered in the Weekend College format, on Friday evenings and Saturdays. NOTE: Students expecting to complete the Weekend College A.A. degree program and transfer to CSULA in five semesters, plus two summer sessions, should complete any required prerequisites prior to enrolling in the WeekendCollege Program. How to EnrollStep 1. Fill out a PCC Application for Admission in the Admissions Office (L113).You should also pick up your priority registration number (earliest day and time you can register) and information on assessment tests. Step 2. Go to Counseling (L104) to determine what, if any, prerequisites or assessment tests you may need to take. Take your high school and/or any college transcripts you may have to help in this process. You should also have your transcripts sent directly to the Admissions Office—in fact, this is preferable. Step 3. The assessment schedule is available from the Assessment Center (D204) and the Counseling Office (L104).Take any required assessment tests, which are scheduled at convenient times prior to the beginning of the semester. Step 4. Register at your “priority time” and pay your fees for the first pair of courses for Weekend College. (See the section on How to Register by Telephone.) You must sign up for both courses in each nine-week session. You may also enroll in all four classes for the semester at the same time—in fact, you are advised to do so. Step 5. Attend the first meeting of all your classes. PCC policy requires that students be dropped for not attending the first class. NOTE: Enrollment fees for students enrolling in Weekend College courses are the same as for other credit courses. For more information, or for help with any problems, see a counselor in L104 or call the Office of Enrollment Management at (626) 585-3344. |
