Composition


PCC offers a variety of composition courses to help you prepare for and develop your college-level writing skills. This includes practicing writing in various genres and developing argumentative, analytical, and research strategies. Composition courses must be taken in sequential order. Where you begin the sequence is based on the results of the placement exam you take when completing the steps to enroll at PCC.


Corequisite: English 902

Pre-Transfer Level: Entry level course that focuses on sentence structure and paragraph and essay writing

Prerequisite: None

Corequisite: English 901

Pre-Transfer Level: Focuses on reading comprehension and essay development.

Prerequisite: 

  • Placement test or
  • a "C" or better in English 400

Transfer Level: Freshman composition; focuses on reading and writing expository and argumentative essays, including a research paper

Prerequisite: 

  • Placement test or
  • a "C" or better in English 100 or
  • a "C" or better in ESL 33b

Transfer Level: Advanced composition that focuses on writing analytic essays on literature

Prerequisite: 

  • Placement test or
  • a "C" or better in English 1A
 

Transfer Level: Advanced composition that focuses on critical thinking, argumentative texts, and writing argumentative research papers

Prerequisite: 

  • Placement test or
  • a "C" or better in English 1B
 

STACC is for students who test into English 400, 100, or 1A and aims to compress the time-to-completion of Freshman Composition.
