If you love working with children and want to pursue a career in the field of Child Development, then you will get a solid foundation to build upon at PCC. Learn from a theoretical perspective about how children develop and what role adults play in that development. Plus, you will get practical experience working with children in an academic environment with guided experiences.

PCC's Child Development (CHDV) discipline focuses on a curriculum that includes children from infancy through school age. Courses provide a theoretical foundation and prepare students for careers in classroom environments with infants, toddlers, preschool, and school-age children; family day care; parks and recreation; special education; extended day care; and public and nonprofit agencies concerned with the development and welfare of children. The CHDV program is affiliated with the PCC Child Development Center, a state-funded and NAEYC Accredited Center. NAEYC Accreditation represents the highest quality in childcare. Throughout the CHDV program, students receive supervised training at the CDC as part of their curriculum.

The CHDV curricula meet the coursework requirement for the California Child Development permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (Title V) and for the California State Department of Social Services (Title XXII). Additionally, a number of courses meet General Education requirements for the Associate of Science degree and for transfer to a four-year institution.
