Syd Mead, futurist, illustrator and conceptual designer for science fiction including, "Blade Runner", "Star Trek: the Movie" and "TRON", will be an Artist-In Residence at Pasadena City College during the week of March 3-7
Mead, a graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and a resident of the city, continues PCC's 16-year Artist-in Residence tradition.
In addition to his seminal work in the film industry, Mead has done traditional industrial design for almost 50 years for clients such as Ford Motor Company and Nintendo.
"To have Syd Mead at this time is perfect", said Alex Kritselis, division dean of the Visual Arts and Media Studies division at PCC. "With his work in traditional illustration as well as popular film design, Syd is a perfect symbol of our division's intention to cross borders between the visual arts and the broader studies in media today."
Mead will present a public lecture in the PCC Forum: "Cool Blue Dimensions: Creative Ideas in Four Dimensions", Monday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. The talk will provide an over view of his career and a show of his work is on view at the PCC Art Gallery.
The opening reception of the artist will be held in the PCC Art Gallery, 8:30 p.m. The art exhibit will run from February 24 to March 28.
During the week of March 3-7, the college will host a festival of Syd Mead's films.
