PCC PHOTOJOURNALISM 21 by Jesus Gomez

July 5 - July 10, 2008 Opening Reception: Saturday July 5 - from 6 to 8 pm

PCC PHOTOJOURNALISM 21, a solo exhibition of photographs and linoleum prints by Jesus Gomez will be on exhibit at the Pasadena City College art gallery from July 5th through 10th.

Jesus Gomez’ linoleum-cut illustrations titled, “My Life Events,” depict tales of the artist’s life from childhood to adulthood. This body of work was made while Gomez was a student at La Mano Press, under the instruction of Linocut Master Artemio Rodriguez.

Also included in this exhibition, Gomez’ photographs are from his work as a PCC photojournalism student and were originally featured in the “Courier,” the weekly newspaper of Pasadena City College. The variety of subjects depicted is extensive, from images of fine arts, sports and entertainment.

Jesus Gomez emigrated from Guadalajara, Mexico as a young adult, and wanted to become a U. S. Marine, but, because of a language barrier, was not accepted. He spent most of his life working as an auto painter until he was advised to return to school. While attending PCC, Gomez studied Industrial Arts and worked for years in the machine shop industry, from which he is now retired. With time on his hands, Gomez again returned to PCC to study photography, once a childhood hobby and now a serious practice.

Gallery Hours: Sunday July 6 - 12:00 to 2:00 pm Monday to Thursday 12:00 to 4:00 pm
