jzSoftball Loses Slugfest v. Cerritos

By the end of the fourth inning Thursday, Pasadena City College catcher Holly Riker-Sloan had driven in five runs. By the top of the fifth, Cerritos shortstop Jenny Collazo surpassed her with six RBI on her way to driving in eight runs in the Falcons' 13-5 victory over the Lancers at Robinson Park. The South Coast Conference game went all seven innings and lasted two hours, 35 minutes as the teams combined for 27 hits.

The Pasadena City College baseball team didn't break its losing streak Wednesday in its South Coast Conference opener against Cerritos, but the Lancers did show they're capable of going inning-for-inning against league foes. Coach Pat McGee's crew rallied late, but lost to the Falcons, 5-4, at Brookside Park's Jackie Robinson Memorial Field.

PCC Women's Swim Breaks 11-Year Slump v. Mt. SAC

In 2003, the Pasadena City College women's swim team won its only South Coast Conference team championship in the sport. Since that time, while different schools have won the title, Mt. San Antonio has been a consistent hurdle for the Lancers. But on opening day of the SCC dual season Friday, host PCC broke an 11-year streak of losses to the Mounties and swept a double dual over Mt. SAC, 154-117, and Cerritos, 175-96.

On Friday, Pasadena City College women's badminton head coach Jennifer Ho played an entirely different ladder of six singles players than in the team's season-opening win over East Los Angeles. The results were similar to the first contest with the Lancers B squad sweeping all 12 singles matches in a 20-1, South Coast Conference victory over El Camino College-Compton Center at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

San Antonio Wednesday night. The Lancers prevented Mt. SAC from unleashing its fast break offense, but the Mounties countered with consistent defensive pressure that forced PCC into making a season-high 35 turnovers in a 58-45 loss.

As if it were acting out the same script over and over again, the Pasadena City College men's basketball team played hard for 40 minutes Wednesday night only to see its efforts not be enough at the finish. State No. 5-ranked Mt. San Antonio survived a see-saw, South Coast Conference North Division battle, defeating the visiting Lancers, 78-75.

PCC Hosts 3-on-3 Tournament For Cancer Awareness Feb. 22

The PCC President's AAPI Advisory Committee presents "Hoops For Awareness" 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 22 at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium. The charity tourney is part of the Southern California Chinese Relay For Life organization's campaign to raise cancer awareness. All proceeds from the event go to the American Cancer Society.
