The Kinesiology, Health & Athletics Division selected women's volleyball player Patti Blasco, women's cross country/track and field runner Tracee van der Wyk, and men's swimmer Sharif Alaoui as the Pasadena City College Athletes of the Year for the 2009-2010 sports season. The trio were all freshman performers.

Brandon Kintzler, a pitching ace on the 2003 Pasadena City College baseball team, has become a rising prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. He recently was promoted to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds (Tennessee) and recorded his first save for that team on June 20.

Cherisa Sellers, a member of the 2009 Pasadena City College state champion women's basketball team, has signed her 4-year university letter to attend Texas College in Tyler, Texas. The 6-foot-2 center was twice named All-South Coast Conference North Division Second Team at PCC.

Former Playing Great Manvelyan Named New PCC Men's Soccer Head Coach

From 2001-2002, he played for two of the best teams in Pasadena City College men's soccer history. He is the program's second all-time leading points scorer. In 2010, Edgar Manvelyan returns to PCC with a mission to rebuild the Lancers back into a state contender as the college's new men's soccer head coach.

PCC Selects Randy Lilavois As Women's Soccer Head Coach

Randy Lilavois has been selected as just the second head coach in the history of the Pasadena City College women's soccer program by Athletic Director/Dean of Kinesiology, Health & Athletics Beverly Tate. The Lancers begin the 2010 season in late August.

Larry Wade Returns As Head Coach For PCC Men/Women Track And Field

For the first time in his three seasons at Pasadena City College, Larry Wade will be the sole head coach for the Lancers men's and women's track and field teams in 2011. Wade previously was a co-head coach of the program in 2008 and assistant coach this past season.

Three PCC Runners Medal At State Track Meet

Tracee van der Wyk tried, but couldn't overcome the elements in placing third in the women's 1,500 meters at the CCCAA State Track and Field Championships held Saturday at Antelope Valley College's Marauder Stadium. Overall, three Pasadena City College men's and women's track athletes earned state medals (top eight places) as the 2009-2010 Lancers sports season came to a close.

Pasadena City College freshman Tracee van der Wyk continued her impressive season by winning the 1,500 meters title at the Southern California Track and Field Championships held Saturday at Mission Viejo's Saddleback College.

Lancers Badminton Represents Well At State Individual Championships

As the host school of the 2010 CCCAA Women's Badminton State Championships, Pasadena City College wanted to make a mark in the individual singles and doubles competition. The Lancers did just that by placing high in three of the four categories of play in concluding their season May 14-15. The Lancers had opened the tourney May 13 in an epic 11-10 loss to City College of San Francisco in the state team title match.

The Pasadena City College women's badminton team came oh so close to a state team title Thursday. The Lancers greatest season in 11 years of the intercollegiate sport came to a thrilling finish, but it was City College of San Francisco prevailing, 11-10, in the CCCAA State Team Championship Match at PCC's Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

PCC's Sandi Iverson Inducted Into Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Former softball head coach Sandi Iverson, who retired in 2007 as the winningest coach in Pasadena City College women's sports history with 562 victories, was inducted into the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Iverson's induction ceremony will take place at the CCCFCA fastpitch softball luncheon Thursday at Bakersfield College, host of this weekend's 2010 state championship tournament.

Women's Badminton Captures First SoCal Championship

The 2010 Pasadena City College women's badminton team did something that no previous Lancers' team could accomplish Wednesday. PCC went to the wire in capturing the college's first Southern California Regional championship in the sport, defeating San Diego City College, 12-9, at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

Pasadena City College sophomore Ernesto Rodriguez, a top cross country runner the past two seasons, used his distance ability when it counted with a thrilling victory in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase at the South Coast Conference Track and Field Championships held April 27 and May 1 at Mt. San Antonio College.

It was the Tracee van der Wyk distance festival at the South Coast Conference Track and Field Championships April 27 and May 1 at Mt. San Antonio College. The Pasadena City College freshman women's runner put on a clinic in endurance and versatility in willing the Lancers to a fourth place team finish at the conference finals meet.

The Pasadena City College women's badminton team is looking for its first Southern California Regional championship when it hosts San Diego City College Wednesday, May 5 in the SoCal team title match. Singles competition begins at 3 p.m. at PCC's Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

Freshman Sharif Alaoui became the fourth state individual champion in the past four seasons from the Pasadena City College men's swim team with his victory in the 200-yard freestyle Friday during the CCCAA State Championships held at Mt. San Antonio College.

If one statistic could explain everything about the 2010 Pasadena City College baseball team, it would be the Lancers' record when the team scored 10 or more runs in a game. PCC reached double digits in runs six times this season, yet only once did it win a game when accomplishing the feat.

David Reed, who set numerous receiving records on the Pasadena City College football team in 2006-2007, was chosen by the Baltimore Ravens as the No. 156 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft Saturday morning.

Another Home Loss Ends Softball's Season

A disappointing season for the 2010 Pasadena City College softball team ended with yet another home defeat, an 8-1 loss to East Los Angeles College Wednesday at Brookside Park. PCC finished the year at 9-28 overall and in sixth place of the South Coast Conference with a 2-16 league mark.

Offense Awakes For Softball In 19-4 Rout Over El Camino

It took just one game for the Pasadena City College softball team to nearly match its offensive production of its 11 previous South Coast Conference contests. The Lancers took out their frustrations on host El Camino College, recording season highs in runs and hits in a 19-4 rout over the Warriors Tuesday. The game lifted the Lancers out of the SCC cellar and likely a sixth place finish in the seven-team conference.

On April Fool's Day, Pasadena City College women's badminton coach Bill Sanchez promised he wasn't playing a joke when he sent out a skeleton crew minus his top two singles players against El Camino College Compton Center. Albert Galvan, a former Pasadena City College student athletic trainer, has won the 2010 California Athletic Trainers Association (CATA) YouTube Video Contest. Galvan produced a video involving other student trainers and members of the PCC men's soccer team designed to show the value and need for such people associated with intercollegiate athletics.

The defending state champion Pasadena City College women's basketball team will have this Thursday's CCCAA quarterfinal game against City College of San Francisco streamed live on the Internet at www.coasports.org, the official website for California Community College athletics. Game time is 1 p.m. at Cal Lutheran University Gilbert Arena in Thousand Oaks. Women's basketball alumni Tamiko Rounds and Morgan Bennett, members of Pasadena City College's 34-win team in 2006-2007, have gone on to help their new college to ultimate success. Now seniors, the pair led Talladega College of Alabama in winning the small college national championship March 6.

Kim Smith experienced the high of being on a state champion team last year as a freshman. She wouldn't mind another shot at the state trophy as a sophomore. The Pasadena City College softball team saved a split in a non-conference, doubleheader at Chaffey College by downing the Panthers, 10-2, in the second game Friday. PCC dropped the first game by an 8-2 count.

Fudge Is Sweet Shooter In Women's Basketball Playoff Win Over IVC, 76-55

For two years, Melissa Fudge led the Pasadena City College women's soccer team in goal scoring. A natural scorer in soccer, Fudge has had a different role in her two seasons on the PCC women's basketball team. A defensive-type player, Fudge helped the Lancers off the bench last season when they captured the state championship, and served again as a key reserve for much of this season.

For five innings, Pasadena City College starting pitcher Samantha Gontol shut down the bats of Los Angeles Valley College in hurling the Lancers to a 2-0 lead. In Like Flynn: Second Baseman Helps Baseball Win Opener Over AVC, 8-6

There wasn't a lot to smile about last season for the Pasadena City College baseball team, an eighth-place finisher in the South Coast Conference. But PCC Head Coach Evan O'Meara knew he had a keeper in infielder Mike Flynn. After playing first base last year, O'Meara was so impressed by Flynn's pre-season practices that he moved the sophomore to one of the key middle infield positions at second base. O'Meara also feels Flynn, a South Pasadena High grad, exhibits leadership abilities that he hopes will help foster a positive attitude with his 2010 squad.

Pasadena City College women's softball head coach Elaine Martinez begins her fourth season in charge knowing that her 2010 Lancers have more talent and depth than any of her previous three squads. Top 10 PCC Games Of The Decade 2000-2009: Games 10-to-8

As the first decade of the 21st century comes to a close, we reflect back on some of the greatest games of the past 10 years in Pasadena City College intercollegiate athletics.

The games include some great performances by teams and individuals, a few playoff games, several historic accomplishments, and others that were simply memorable contests.

No list can be done without a set of rules and we have decided to not include any PCC losses or performances by individual team sports, including track and field, swimming and diving, and cross country. Only games involving traditional team sports are on the list. This means the 65-64, season-ending loss to Santa Ana by the 2007 PCC football team is not on the list, nor the four event wins at the 2007 state championship meet accomplished by Edino Steele in men's track and field.

For 40 minutes of regulation play and the first half of a 5-minute overtime period, Pasadena City College men's basketball guard Dannin Harris had not contributed a single point of an 85-85 nailbiter between the Lancers and host Long Beach City College. In the following 68 seconds, Harris single-handedly sparked PCC with all eight points of an 8-2 run as the Lancers won their second straight South Coast Conference interdivisional game, 97-87, Wednesday night.

Pasadena City College got to see the rushing exploits of Jerome Harrison when he set a school football record with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2002 and 2003. When Hilton Garden Inn began sponsoring the season-opening tournament for the Pasadena City College women's basketball team in 2007, the Lancers figured it would quickly capture the championship title. PCC Cross Country Teams Start Season

The Pasadena City College women's and men's cross country teams opened the 2009 schedule by racing in the Fullerton Season Opener meet at Fullerton Municipal Golf Course Sept. 5. The Lancers women placed 19th out of 26 teams, but most of the field was made up of 4-year university squads.

A streak of play where it allowed 10 consecutive goals over two matches continued a rare season-opening slide by the Pasadena City College men's soccer team. Off to the college's worst start ever in the sport at 0-3, the Lancers were crushed by Los Angeles Mission, 5-1, Tuesday in their home opener at Robinson Stadium.

Despite returning a Pasadena City College football record three interceptions for touchdowns, the Lancers’ defense couldn’t prevent Mt. San Antonio from scoring a TD with 1:16 left in a season-opening, 35-30 defeat Saturday afternoon at Mt. SAC’s Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

PCC Football Alum David Reed Leads Utah To 15th Straight Win

For two seasons from 2006-2007, All-American David Reed smashed nearly every receiving record for Pasadena City College football. Reed is looking to do the same this season for the University of Utah. On Thursday night, the senior Reed caught 10 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown to lead the nation's 19th-ranked Utes to their 15th straight victory, 35-17, over Utah State.

Men's Soccer: First 0-2 Start In A Decade

Over the past 11 seasons under head coach Cherif Zein, the Pasadena City College men's soccer program has built a reputation of excellence that includes four South Coast Conference titles, four trips to the third round of the regional playoffs, and a school-best run to the state semifinals in 2002. Last season, PCC just missed advancing to the CCCAA Final Four, losing to eventual state champion Cerritos in the third round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

PCC 2009-2010 Sports Season Approaches

Pasadena City College's 2009-2010 intercollegiate sports season begins Friday, Aug. 28 when the Lancers' women's volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer teams open their schedules. Three of PCC's 16 sports teams get the ball rolling for a calendar year that runs more than nine months through May, 2010.
