Fred Fimbres was selected as the 24th head coach in Pasadena City College football history, replacing the retiring Dennis Gossard. Fimbres' appointment will be formally approved at the July 6 Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees meeting.

1950s Football Coach Mickey Anderson Passes At 93

Mickey Anderson, head football coach at Pasadena City College from 1954-1956, will be remembered for both his athletic talents and his ability to bring the best out of his student-athletes as a long-time coach in both football and track and field. Anderson, who retired in 1980, passed away at age 93 on April 26.

Day 1 Highlights Of 11th Pasadena Swim Invitational

The 11th Pasadena Invitational opened Friday with a meet record in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay, a 1:39.54 time set by Orange Coast College. Ironically, the Pirates held the old record of 1:40.49 performed in 2003. The two-day event held at the PCC Aquatic Center finishes Saturday with a full day's schedule of events.

Sophomore guard Shawn Hampton was the only Pasadena City College men's basketball team selection to the 2011 All-South Coast Conference First Team. Hampton led PCC in several statistical categories, including scoring at 18.8 points per game. It was Hampton's second consecutive selection as All-SCC after making the Second Team in 2010.

Rain helped the Pasadena City College baseball team twice against Los Angeles Pierce College. First, the rain washed out a Feb. 18 non-conference game v. the Brahmas, a game that Pierce led 7-5 in the top half of the fifth inning. Because games have to go five complete innings to be considered a contest, the game went down as a rainout. The remake was Friday and again the showers shortened the contest between the host Lancers and Pierce.
