Sports in the NewsGender Neutral Restrooms Resolution Approved by Associated Students
Friday October 26, 2007 Associated Students passsed a resolution supporting the creation of a gender neutral restrooms Associated Students Resolution WHEREAS, the Associated Students (ASPCC) represents the students of Pasadena City College, and; WHEREAS, the ASPCC 2006/2007 Executive Board and the ASPCC 2007/2008 Executive Board unanimously voted to support and approve, and; WHEREAS, other Universities and Colleges have passed similar resolutions, and; WHEREAS, ASPCC is strongly committed to creating a safe and accessible environment for all students, and; WHEREAS, California state law prohibits discrimination based on gender identity, and; WHEREAS, gender specific restrooms are unwelcoming and unsafe for many people whose gender identity or expression is outside traditional gender norms, and; WHEREAS, students, staff, faculty and visitors of all gender identities and expressions deserve safe restrooms, and; WHEREAS, parents and guardians of small children also need access to gender neutral restrooms, and; WHEREAS, people-including those with physical disabilities-needing the assistance of differently gendered attendants also need access to gender-neutral restrooms. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that, ASPCC advocates for the inclusion in the Pasadena Area Community College District (PACCD) design standards and, in all newly constructed PACCD/PCC managed buildings, the mandatory construction of gender neutral and family friendly single stalled restrooms that include baby changing facilities, and that are accessible to people with disabilities, and; THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, ASPCC advocates for the inventorying and publicizing of all current single stalled restrooms at the Pasadena City College (PCC), Child Development Center (CDC), Community Education Center (CEC), and; THEREFORE BE IT FURTHUR RESOLVED that, ASPCC advocates for the changing of a few of the existing multi stalled restrooms from gender specific to gender neutral facilities, and; THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, ASPCC advocates for the inclusion of the needs of families and people with disabilities in all new and current restroom facilities, and; THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, all Associated Students Executive Board Members are authorized to advocate in support of Gender Neutral Restrooms, and; THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, the Student Trustee advocate and present Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees the ASPCC affirmation and resolution in support of Gender Neutral Restrooms, and; THEREFORE BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that, a copy of this resolution be sent to the Pasadena City College Courier, the PACCD Board of Trustees, PCC President Paulette Perfumo, PCC Vice President Lisa Sugimoto, PCC Vice President Kindred Murillo, PCC OSA Assistant Dean Scott Thayer, Lancer Radio, and the Inter-club Council so that the immediate implementation of this resolution can begin.
