Sports in the NewsFootball's Harris, Bermudes Named SCFA Northern Conference Players Of Week
To the victor goes the spoils. For the second straight week, the SCFA recognized two Pasadena City College football players as National Northern Conference Players of the Week. Freshman safety Julius Harris was selected Defensive Player of the Week while freshman placekicker Anthony Bermudes took Special Teams Player of the Week honors. In each of the last three weeks PCC has had at least a player win one of the three weekly awards for the conference. Harris intercepted two passes and made six tackles in PCC's fourth straight victory, 38-21 over Ventura College. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder from Compton's Centennial High is tied with teammate Derek Mack for the team and NNC interception lead with four pickoffs each. Bermudes, from Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose, played club soccer before trying out for the Lancers prior to the season. Bermudes delivered October 11 when he booted a 44-yard field goal, kicked three extra points, and boomed two kickoffs to the Ventura goal-line. His kickoffs have helped PCC lead the conference in kickoff coverage or least yards allowed on kickoffs. PCC is 4-2 overall and tied with College of the Canyons for the NNC lead at 2-0. The Lancers host Allan Hancock College Saturday, October 18. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at PCC's Robinson Stadium.
