Fudge Returns, Women's Soccer Beats Oxnard, 2-1
After leading the Pasadena City College women's soccer team in scoring last year by accounting for half of the team's goals with 18, sophomore Melissa Fudge had to sit out the first three matches this year because of academic issues.Fudge gained her eligibility prior to the Lancers' non-conference match at Oxnard College Sept. 11. The forward proceeded to show how important her presence is to the 2009 team in scoring the game winner in the second half of PCC's 2-1 victory.
The triumph evened the Lancers record at 2-2 overall.
Fudge slipped by two defenders and punched in her first goal of the season in the 63rd minute. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Lancers tied it on sophomore utility player Molly Pink's goal from a cross pass by freshman defender Lisa Kelley three minutes into the second half.
PCC goalie Yvette Hernandez made 8 saves to backstop the win and stop a 2-match losing streak for the Lancers.
Pasadena will take a break from action until Tuesday, Sept. 22 when it hosts College of the Sequoias in a 2 p.m. match at Robinson Stadium.
