Men's Soccer Still Winless
It was feared that the Pasadena City College men's soccer team's early struggles this season could take even a darker turn when the Lancers entered this week's beginning of South Coast Conference play.Last year, two SCC teams made it to the CCCAA championship match (Cerritos beat Mt. San Antonio) and routinely 5-6 teams qualify for the regional playoffs from the nation's most powerful community college conference. PCC had made it to the third round of regionals before falling to Cerritos.
But PCC's 2009 inexperienced squad already is feeling the heat from conference opponents. The Lancers followed an 8-1 loss at LA Harbor Sept. 29 with their worst defeat ever in SCC play (dating back to 1998) in an 8-0 pounding handed to them by host and defending state champion Cerritos Friday.
The Falcons outshot PCC, 30-6, as Luis Gonzalez scored 4 goals. PCC goalie Iran Rodriguez made 9 saves as he felt like he was trapped in a carnival shooting gallery.
PCC has been outscored, 45-8, this season in dropping to 0-9 overall and 0-2 in the SCC.
The Lancers look to break the winless streak Tuesday, October 6 in a 1 p.m. home match against East Los Angeles College at Robinson Stadium.
