Eleven In A Row For State No. 8 Women's Volleyball
The juggernaut continued for the Pasadena City College women's volleyball team Friday night at state No. 22-ranked Cerritos College. The No. 8 Lancers recorded their 10th sweep of the season and extended their winning streak to 11 consecutive matches with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-14 triumph over the Falcons.PCC (12-1) has won 36 of 42 games played overall and remain a perfect 6-0 in South Coast Conference match play.
Against Cerritos, Patti Blasco posted 15 kills and 12 digs while libero Marissa Rangel contributed 14 digs. Outside hitter Nicole Holmes added 7 kills and setter Jessica Xu 6 kills, 3 blocks, and 22 assists. The trio of Galia Sotomayor, Jessica Foley, and Miranda Doing each had 5 kills and combined for 8 blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Anita Wang (pictured) added 5 digs.
"We played strong team defense with Anita strengthening her play in this match," PCC Head Coach Tammy Silva said. "Galia was solid at the net. Nicole was able to pick up the offensive slack. We have established consistency, but more importantly, we are playing much better defense than we were earlier in the year."
PCC will host a pair of SCC matches Wednesday, October 14 against Long Beach City College and Friday, October 16 in a showdown with state top-ranked El Camino. Both contests begin at 6 p.m. at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium
