Scoring Blur: Women's Soccer Nets 3 In 9 Minutes During 4-2 Win Over ECC
Nine minutes go as fast as blinking one's eyes in a regulation 90-minute soccer match. Prior to the 25th minute, the Pasadena City College and El Camino College women's soccer teams were in a scoreless duel. By the 34th minute, the Lancers were ahead 3-0 and on their way to a 4-2, South Coast Conference victory on a rainy afternoon at Robinson Stadium.PCC's scoring bonanza began when Alexa Weigand fed a breakaway pass to Melissa Fudge, who scored her sixth goal of the season. Six minutes later, Shadi Moghadam sent a long ball along the sideline to Fudge who immediately crossed it to Molly Pink for a one-timer goal. PCC followed three minutes later with an indirect free kick as Weigand pushed it to Lisa Kelley, who blasted in a 35-yard shot for a 3-0 Lancers' lead.
Pasadena upped its record to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the SCC. El Camino fell to 4-7-1 and 1-4. The Lancers are 3-2 in home games this season.
In the 68th minute, Pasadena capped its scoring on Fudge's second goal of the game and team-leading seventh overall with a bullet shot from 22 yards out on a pass from Moghadam. For the sophomore Fudge it was her 25th career goal, placing her sixth on the all-time Lancers' goal-scoring list.
PCC goalie Yvette Hernandez made 5 saves to backstop the triumph.
In a game played October 9 at Mt. San Antonio, the Lancers were toppled, 6-0. The team played without Hernandez, who was serving a suspension for her red card (use of hands on ball outside the goalie box) in the win over East Los Angeles October 6. Pasadena played reserve defender Jodelle Maglaya at goalie and she made 5 saves. Maglaya is the fifth different Lancer to play goalkeeper thus far in 2009.
PCC next hosts El Camino College-Compton Center Friday, October 16 in a 3 p.m. match.
