Bonouar, Pink Score Twice In PCC Women's Soccer 7-1 Rout Over Compton
The Pasadena City College women's soccer team peppered visiting El Camino College Compton Center with 33 shots on goal and dominated a 7-1, South Coast Conference victory Friday at Robinson Stadium.The Lancers evened both their overall and conference records at 6-6 and 3-3, respectively. Compton scored on its only shot of the game, but that was the lone highlight in dropping to 1-5 overall and in the SCC.
Five PCC players scored their first points of the season, including reserve midfielder Somaya Bonouar (pictured, from Canada), who scored two goals. Sophomore forward/defender Molly Pink was a force in the game with 2 goals and an assist. Pink was all over the field, and played aggressively in the Compton end, setting up several scoring opportunities.
Sophomore Melissa Fudge was held scoreless, but had 2 assists and launched a team-high 10 of the Lancers' shots in the contest.
In the 12th minute, Alexa Weigand sent a perfect corner kick to Pink, who headed it in for a 1-0 PCC lead. In the 40th minute, Amy Wallace scored from 25 yards out on an assist by Titha Mejia for what proved to be the game-winning goal. Compton responded a minute later with a goal by Adally Olmas, but PCC upped the lead to 3-1 in the 43rd minute on a header by Bonouar off a corner kick from Marina Lesse.
The Lancers poured it on the second half with Pink taking a cross pass from Fudge and scoring in the 55th minute, Bonouar blasting in her second score from 30 yards out on an assist by Pink in the 59th minute, Mejia scoring on a rebound shot in the 71st minute, and finally Lisa Kelley netting the final goal from Claudia Garcia with four minutes left.
Pasadena next travels to face Long Beach City College for a SCC match Tuesday, October 20 at 4 p.m.
