Women's Water Polo Splits 4 Matches At Citrus Tournament
Freshman Hannah Hogue continued her strong play at goalie as the Pasadena City College women's water polo team won twice out of four matches at the Citrus Tournament held October 16-17.The Lancers (8-12 overall) opened with a 9-2 loss to Orange Coast before defeating LA Valley College, 8-3. On day 2, PCC lost to host Citrus, 5-3, but recovered with a 5-2 victory over South Coast Conference foe El Camino.
PCC was held to 14 shots on goal in the OCC loss with goals by Jade Wilia and Anneke Forest. Hogue (pictured) made 10 saves and 3 steals.
Against Valley, PCC's offense was paced by Wilia with 5 goals (10 attempts) and Forrest with a goal and 3 assists. Hogue was outstanding with 18 saves.
In the Citrus loss, Hogue totaled 10 saves and three steals and Wilia, Merry Sanders and Shannon Adams scored a goal a piece. PCC did not score on six power-play opportunities.
In ending the tourney by defeating El Camino, Wilia scored 3 goals and both Sanders and Adams had 1 each. Hogue made 9 saves and 2 steals.
In a SCC match played October 14 at Long Beach City College, the Lancers suffered a 13-1 setback to the state's No. 5-ranked Vikings. Hogue had 6 saves and Sanders scored the team's lone goal in the third quarter.
Coached by Terry Stoddard in his 11th season directing the program, Pasadena hosts Chaffey College Wednesday, October 21 in a 3 p.m. SCC match at the Aquatic Center.
