Women's X-Country's van der Wyk Excels In 13th At Mt. SAC Invite
Tracee van der Wyk ran 13th overall out of 272 runners in placing the Pasadena City College women's cross country freshman among the state's top racers at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational held October 16.
Van der Wyk, from Temple City High, ran a time of 19 minutes, 14 seconds in the 3-mile race, the second fastest mark of South Coast Conference runners. The next Lancer to the finish was Abby Read in 67th place at 21:06. Sophomore Ashley Hernandez took 113th at 22:00 and Marissa Morales was 142nd at 22:44.
Rounding out the PCC women were Rebecca Nunez (156th, 23:09) and Lidia Garcia (159th, 23:22). The Lancers were 15th place in team scoring out of 32 scoring colleges.
In the men's 4-mile run at Mt. SAC, the Lancers placed 23rd out of 33 scoring colleges. Out of 337 total runners, PCC's Ernesto Rodriguez, a sophomore, crossed the line in 75th individually at 23:39. The rest of the men's squad trailed toward the middle of the pack with a few in the back half of the racers.
Finishing in order were Antero Barrantes (142nd, 24:48), Kevin Cano (157th, 24:58), McKinley Murphy (163rd, 25:11), Herminio Flores (219th, 26:21) and Rosello de Guzman (309th, 29:53).
