Fifteen Straight Wins For SCC 1st Place Women's VB
The state's No. 3-ranked Pasadena City College women's volleyball team rolled to its 15th consecutive victory, sweeping host Los Angeles Harbor College, 25-8, 25-7, 25-15, Friday night. Leaders of the South Coast Conference at 10-0, the Lancers upped their overall record to 16-1.
Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Holmes continues to stay hot with 10 kills and a team-high 4 service aces. Frosh OH Patti Blasco added 9 kills and freshman Chelsea Umana (pictured) recorded her new season-high of 8 kills while playing at middle blocker. PCC first-year setters Jessica Xu (3 aces) and Klaire Blasco split the assists with exactly 19 each.
Second-year libero Marissa Rangel tallied 11 digs and sophomore opposite Galia Sotomayor hit 5 kills.
The Lancers dominance in winning includes 13 sweeps and losing just seven of 55 games played.
While PCC hopes to win its first-ever conference title, the Lancers learned their victory over two-time, defending state champion El Camino College ended a 43-match conference winning streak by the Warriors. El Camino hadn't lost in South Coast play since 2006 prior to PCC's 4-game win October 16.
PCC Head Coach Tammy Silva is approaching the century milestone, now with 98 career victories, 43 of those in charge of the Lancers in just her third season at the college. PCC matched last year's win total of 16 with still six conference contests and the playoffs remaining.
The Lancers won't play again until Friday, October 30 when they host 20th-ranked Mt. San Antonio in a 6 p.m. match at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium. The Mounties stretched PCC to their only 5-game match of the season, won by the Lancers on September 30.
