Women's Water Polo Season Ends With 6-5 Win Over ECC
Darly Htike's goal with 1:18 left gave the Pasadena City College women's water polo team an exciting close to the 2009 season as the Lancers edged El Camino College, 6-5, in the fifth place match of the South Coast Conference Tournament Saturday morning. The 3-day tourney was played at Chaffey College.
The Lancers finished the season at 10-16 overall and 5-5 in SCC matches.
Jade Wilia eclipsed the 50-goal mark for the season with 3 goals and Merry Sanders and Anneke Forrest added a goal a piece. Forrest twice had assists in the fourth quarter, including feeding Htike for the game-winner. Goalie Hannah Hogue closed her record-setting season with 12 saves, 3 steals and 2 assists. Hogue's Lancer record for most saves in a season will stand at 277 saves.
PCC Head Coach Terry Stoddard said Shannon Adams, a sophomore tri-team captain along with Wilia and Sanders, also played well in the season-ending match.
"We easily had our best defensive squad in the program's history," Stoddard said. "We often kept the scores of games down and it allowed us to stay with most of our opponents. If we can build on this defense and add some consistent go-to scorers, we can make a drive for the playoffs next season."
Pasadena allowed 5 or less goals in 14 of its 26 matches this season.
