Eighteen Consecutive Wins And Counting For Women's Volleyball
All great teams have different individuals who make key contributions from game to game. On Friday night, the Pasadena City College women's volleyball team turned to sophomore opposite Galia Sotomayor, who led the Lancers to their 18th straight victory, sweeping host Los Angeles Trade Tech College, 25-7, 25-9, 25-14.
PCC stands undefeated in first place of the South Coast Conference at 13-0, and hold a 19-1 overall mark, good enough for a No. 3 ranking in the State Top 25 Poll.
Against Trade Tech, Sotomayor served 4 aces during a game 2 spurt that allowed the Lancers to take a 20-2 lead. The 5-foot-9 Providence High (Burbank) graduate scored 8 kills in just 10 attempts.
Outside hitters Nicole Holmes and Patti Blasco each recorded 7 kills and setter Jessica Xu had 5 kills (4 on dumps) with 22 set assists. Middle blocker Jessica Foley added 4 kills and 3 blocks while Chelsea Umana had 4 kills. Libero Marissa Rangel tallied 10 digs.
The Lancers host No. 18-ranked Cerritos College Monday, November 9 in their last regular season home match. First serve is 6 p.m. at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
