Nine Straight Losses For Men's Basketball image

It's not getting any better for the Pasadena City College men's basketball team, which is seeing the losses mount and the roster dwindle. The Lancers lost their ninth straight contest Thursday, losing to Santa Monica College, 77-60, in the second round of the Rio Hondo Roadrunner Roundup Tournament.

PCC (1-9 overall) got 21 points from Shawn Hampton (pictured), 17 by Elliott Berry (including three 3-pointers), and 10 by Dannin Harris. SMC was paced by 14 points each from  Bryant Crowder and Rue Critchfield.

The Lancers opened the tourney getting buried by a downpour of 3s as Chaffey beat PCC, 95-66, sinking 15 treys to 5 by Pasadena. Dario Jokic made six of those 3-pointers as part of his game-high 24 points. For PCC, Hampton tallied 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, and Jordan Block had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Berry contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds. Terrell Jones added 10 points and  7 assists.

Chaffey led, 53-26, by halftime and coasted to the victory.

On Dec. 4 at PCC, Cerritos spoiled the team's home opener, 86-73. Block scored 20 of his team-high 24 points in the second half.

The Lancers have dropped several players from the opening-game roster, and are now carrying 11 players. This week's drop list included freshmen guards Sean Powell and Tony Adams.

Pasadena hosts LA Southwest College Wednesday, December 16 in a non-conference game. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
