PCC Alum Harrison Records 3rd Highest Rushing Game In NFL History

PCC Alum Harrison Records 3rd Highest Rushing Game In NFL History image

Pasadena City College got to see the rushing exploits of Jerome Harrison when he set a school football record with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2002 and 2003. On Sunday, the National Football League and his current team the Cleveland Browns learned how electrifying a player the PCC alumnus has become.

Harrison set a Browns' record for most rushing yards in a game and posted the third highest single-game rushing total in NFL history with 286 yards. His third touchdown of the game on a 28-yard carry with 44 seconds lifted Cleveland to a 41-34 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Harrison smashed the Browns' 48-year-old record of 237 yards set by legendary NFL Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown. Harrison's name entered the NFL record book behind only Adrian Peterson (296 yards, Minnesota, 2007) and Jamal Lewis (295 yards, Baltimore, 2003).

Running the ball 34 times, Harrison also broke loose for a 71-yard touchdown jaunt after earlier scoring on an 8-yard TD burst.

Harrison experienced some more history as he was on the field as a special teams blocker while his teammate Josh Cribbs ran back kickoff returns for touchdowns of 100 and 103 yards to become the NFL's all-time leader in TD kickoff returns with 8.

At PCC, he set the Lancers record for most rushing yards in a bowl game when he ran for 243 yards as a freshman in the 2002 Potato Bowl against Moorpark College. His 80-yard TD run in the game also is a PCC school record for a bowl. He is the school's second all-time leading rusher with 2,092 yards. In 2003, he was named JC Grid-Wire All-American honorable mention and All-Mission Conference.

After his two seasons at PCC, Harrison went on to set school records at Washington State University, including leading the nation in regular season rushing yards in 2005. He was a fifth round choice by Cleveland in the 2006 NFL Draft. This is Harrison's fourth season as a pro.
