Women's Basketball Alum Easter Faafiti Excels at Gallaudet University
Easter Faafiti, a member of Pasadena City College's 2009 state champion women's basketball team, is continuing her successful playing career with accolades as a junior center for Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.
Faafiti's play has helped rejuvenate the Gallaudet Bison program, an all-deaf student college that won just nine games in the past two seasons. Faafiti's performances have lifted Gallaudet to a current 8-4 record under head coach Kevin Cook.
For the third time this season, Faafiti was named Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her play in the week of Jan. 4-10. She also became a selection to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, the first such honor for a Bison player in 10 years.
Faafiti averaged 18.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3 steals in the week as she now leads the conference in scoring.
Last year, Faafiti ended a two-year run as one of the Lancers' greatest women's basketball players under Coach Joe Peron. She was selected to the CCCAA All-State Tournament team and twice was an All-State regular season choice as a forward. As a freshman at PCC in 2007-2008, she was named the PCC Women's Athlete of the Year, and this past season she earned the college's prestigious President's Award for performance, educational achievement, and sportsmanship.
Originally from Pittsburg, Calif., Faafiti set PCC single-game records for most rebounds in a playoff contest (16) and highest field goal percentage when she made a perfect 11-for-11 attempts in a 2008 game v. El Camino College-Compton Center. She is tied for fourth on the Lancers' all-time scoring list with 992 career points.
