Sanders Wins SCC 1-Meter Women's Diving Title image

Merry Sanders became the first Pasadena City College diver in five years to win the 1-meter women's diving title at the South Coast Conference Diving Championships held at El Camino College Friday.

Sanders scored 143.80 points to defeat Mt. San Antonio's Danae Carrano (122.30) and Long Beach's Hollie Mickelson (101.50). The last Lancer to win a diving title was Jesse Barry in 2005.

Sanders, a sophomore from Arcadia High School who also played on the PCC women's water polo team, had recently finished ninth at the Pasadena Invitational and placed behind Carrano. At the SCC championships, PCC Head Coach Terry Stoddard said Sanders showed great poise and impressed the judges with her technical prowess. She tallied a season best in points at the conference meet.
