Women's Basketball Center Sellers Signs With Texas College
Cherisa Sellers, a member of the 2009 Pasadena City College state champion women's basketball team, has signed her 4-year university letter to attend Texas College in Tyler, Texas. The 6-foot-2 center was twice named All-South Coast Conference North Division Second Team at PCC.
Sellers joins another former Lancer, forward Christina Miner (2006-2007 team), at Texas. Miner, a junior last season, averaged 8.5 points and 4.7 rebounds as a starter. Sellers enters the the NAIA Steers' program as a junior.
In her freshman season, Sellers averaged 3.6 points and 5.9 rebounds as a key Pasadena reserve. She led the 33-4 Lancers in blocked shots with 24. As a sophomore in 2009-2010, Sellers earned more minutes and averaged 4.5 points and 6.7 rebounds as she was part of a twin-tower frontcourt with freshman Dominique Scott. PCC finished 25-5 as a state quarterfinalist.
A defensive type player, Sellers made better than 50 percent of her field goal attempts in taking advantage of her offensive opportunities. Sellers, 21, came to PCC from Joliet Township High in Joliet, Illinois.
Sellers is the second sophomore from the 2009-2010 Lancers to select a Texas-based college as Kim Smith earlier signed with the University of Texas-El Paso. Both players were guided by PCC Head Coach Joe Peron.
