PCC Soccer's Yura Movsisyan Joins Armenia National Team
Pasadena City College men's soccer alumnus Yura Movsisyan has joined his native country Armenia national team that will compete for the 2012 European Championships.
Movsisyan was busy after helping Real Salt Lake win the Major League Soccer championship in November of last year. The 23-year-old striker was a top scorer for RLS, but after his contract expired, he chose to sign with Denmark's Randers club in the Europa League earlier this year.
With Randers, he scored two goals in a late July match, a rare feat by any player in the highly competitive, low-scoring Europa League.
Movsisyan had been a candidate for the U.S. national team, but was given a secure spot to play for Armenia, making his decision earlier this week.
Movsisyan was an All-South Coast Conference performer for the Lancers in 2005 when he scored a team-leading 19 goals. He became the highest drafted U.S. community college player in MLS history when he was picked No. 4 overall by Kansas City in the 2006 SuperDraft.
