Pasadena City College appointed Dennis Gossard interim head football coach for the 2010 season on Wednesday.

Gossard, who has coached football for 31 years at PCC, will be making his third tour as head coach for the Lancers. From 1987-1994 and 2005, Gossard posted a 49-42-1 record as the program head.

His 49 career victories are the third most by a head coach in the 85-year history of football at PCC. Gossard’s teams won the 1990 Orange County Classic Bowl and 1992 Pasadena Rose City Classic Bowl championships.

The ’92 team finished 10-1 overall. Running back Darick Holmes (Buffalo Bills), wide receiver Ray Ethridge (Baltimore Ravens), and defensive back Charles Mincy (Oakland Raiders) were all Gossard-coached players that went on to the NFL.

Overall, the 63-year-old Gossard has been a part of seven bowl champions and three conference title winners at PCC. As a head coach, 147 of his players earned scholarships to attend four-year universities.

Gossard enters what will be his 10th season as the coach in charge, beginning with a 6 p.m. season opener at Glendale Community College Saturday, Sept. 4. Two assistants on the PCC coaching staff played for Gossard in LaMonte Peters (1991) and Saladin McCullough (1994), who both will work with the team’s running backs.
