Water Polo Gets On Win Board, Finish 1-3 At Saddleback Tournament
The improvement process is already taking place for the Pasadena City College women's water polo team. The Lancers rebounded from a tough first day with a far better showing on the final day of the Saddleback Tournament Saturday. PCC kept it close against Mt. San Antonio, losing 10-3, then entered the 2010 win column with a 14-3 rout over Southwestern.
Pasadena (1-3) spread the wealth in the Southwestern triumph with eight different players scoring goals. Sophomores Anneke Forrest (pictured) and Brianna Estrada each punched in three goals while Fernanda Camacho and Cynthia Martinez both fired in two goals. Camacho added two assists and added three steals. Sophomore goalie Hannah Hogue made seven saves.
In the Mt. San Antonio loss, Hogue also made seven saves and had four steals in another strong defensive effort from the All-Southern California goaltender. Forrest tallied a goal and one assist.
"We completely shut down the counter attacks against Southwestern, and we slowed down the pace v. Mt. SAC, keeping us within distance," PCC Head Coach Terry Stoddard said. "We responded offensively and we greatly improved our defense from a day ago. We left the tourney on a high note."
Pasadena opens its South Coast Conference schedule Wednesday, Sept. 15 with a 3 p.m. match .v. Cerritos College at the PCC Aquatic Center.
