The Pasadena City College women's soccer team won its second match in two days, holding on to a 2-1, non-conference victory over Oxnard Tuesday. PCC rallied the day before to beat Taft, also 2-1, in a road match against a Northern California opponent.

The back-to-back wins improved PCC to 3-1-1 under new head coach Randy Lilavois.

"The players are beginning to trust each other, from the forwards to the midfielders to the defenders to the goalies," Lilavois said. "When you start seeing that, you develop confidence, and it translates into wins."

PCC dominated against Oxnard, outshooting the Condors, 13-4. The Lancers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a free kick goal from 38 yards by defender and All-South Coast Conference returner Lisa Kelley in the 27th minute.

In the 67th minute, the Lancers sent a corner kick into the box with Mallory Gutierrez gaining control and firing in a short-range shot for the goal. Analuisa Castro assisted on the score.

Oxnard spoiled the team's shutout bid with just one minute left when Maricruz Magana took advantage of a free kick, drilling in a shot from 23 yards away into the upper corner of the net.

Pasadena goalie Sarah Wallick only had to make one save in the 90 minutes. Kelley and Castro had steady defensive games while Stephanie Hernandez and Vania Ovando combined to create several offensive opportunities. Midfielders Jenne Jasper and Madellyn Pineda looked strong coming off the Lancer bench.

In Monday's win over Taft, PCC fell behind 1-0, then tied it two minutes before halftime on a goal by Gutierrez as she received a pass from Kimberly Cristobal, turned around a defender and fired in the score. In the 54th minute, Pasadena took the lead for good as Hernandez took a touch pass from Ovando and dribbled in a shot near the post.

Sophomore goalie Yvette Hernandez made five saves to earn the PCC win. Midfielder Marina Lesse played well with three shots on goal.

The Lancers next play Friday, Sept. 24 in a 4 p.m. match at Los Angeles Valley College.
