Men's Soccer Cuts Down Sequoias, 5-1
The Pasadena City College men's soccer team found out how explosive it can be when it scored three goals in a span of five minutes Tuesday in a 5-1, non-conference rout at College of the Sequoias.
The Lancers are 2-1-2 under new coach Edgar Manvelyan. PCC's offensive outburst followed a 3-0 loss at Taft on Monday.
Against COS, Omar Reyes scored in the game's third minute, followed by goals by David Vasquez (sixth minute) and Derek Olson (seventh minute). The Lancers carried the 3-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, Angel Gomez and Khaled Gara hit the back of the net. Frosh midfielder Kevin Figueroa (pictured) assisted on three goals and Olson also had one helper. Jorge Cervantes made three saves over the first 70 minutes (only goal allowed on penalty kick) and freshman goalie Angel Morales saw his first action of the season, playing the final 20 minutes and making one save.
In the Taft loss, Cervantes and the team saw their shutout string end at 204 minutes to open the 2010 season. The Cougars scored in the 24th minute after PCC and Cervantes, the John Muir High product, had recorded shutouts in the team's first three matches this year. The Lancers failed to score for the third time in four matches.
PCC next hosts Los Angeles Mission College Tuesday, Sept. 21 in a 3 p.m. match at Robinson Stadium.
