Sports in the NewsMen's Soccer Scores 4 In 2nd Half To Down LA Mission, 4-1
The Pasadena City College men's soccer team continued an impressive run under first-year head coach Edgar Manvelyan by scoring all four of its goals in the second half of a 4-1, non-conference win over Los Angeles Mission College Tuesday at Robinson Stadium. The Lancers advanced to 3-1-2 overall a behind their second-half scoring show. Derek Olson scored on a rebound of a shot by Aram Emirzian in the 52nd minute to give PCC a 1-0 lead. At the 66th minute, a Josh Cuevas throw-in was re-directed by a Mission defender for an own goal. In the 72nd minute, Elio Anguiano headed in another Cuevas throw-in to up the lead to 3-0. David Vazquez closed out the Pasadena scoring, taking a lead pass from Valentine Obinwa and driving a short-range shot into the net. PCC goalie Fernando Zavala, subbing for an injured Jorge Cervantes, made five saves and nearly earned a shutout. However, in the game's final minute, Mission was awarded a penalty kick and scored its lone goal. With the return of forward Rimar Daisley-West, the match featured the first time that all seven of the team's sophomores were available for action. PCC opens the South Coast Conference schedule Tuesday, Sept. 28 with a 3 p.m. home match against El Camino College-Compton Center.
