Hernandez Scores Hat Trick As Women's Soccer Records 3rd Straight Victory
First-year head coach Randy Lilavois has his Pasadena City College women's soccer team playing at all cylinders, especially after the Lancers extended their win streak to three in a row with a 6-0, non-conference road rout at Los Angeles Valley College Friday.
PCC improved to 4-1-1 overall as Stephanie Hernandez scored the three-goal hat trick. The Lancers outshot the Monarchs, 24-0, in a complete domination. Goalie Sarah Wallick barely broke a sweat in picking up the save-less shutout.
PCC scored four goals in a span of 15 minutes in the first half to take a 4-0 lead. In the game's 15th minute, Mallory Gutierrez took a perfect feed from Vania Ovando for the first goal and her third of the season. Two minutes later, Lisa Kelley fired a 30-yard shot that surprised the Valley goalie and went off her hands for the score. In the 24th minute, Hernandez stole the ball inside the goalie box and rifled in a shot. At the 30th minute, Hernandez (pictured) again made a steal, dribbled past a defender and scored.
The Lancers didn't stop there as just 29 seconds into the second half Alexandra Dreves corralled an opening kickoff by Somaya Bounouar, made a nifty play to beat a defender and sent in her first collegiate goal. In the 54 minute, Dreves would assist on Hernandez's third goal and team-leading fourth of the year for the frosh forward from Duarte High.
Unbeaten in their last four matches, the Lancers have allowed only three goals in the stretch.
Pasadena opens its South Coast Conference schedule Tuesday, Sept. 28 when it hosts El Camino College-Compton Center. Match time is 1 p.m. at Robinson Stadium.
