For 87 minutes Friday, the Pasadena City College and host Long Beach City College women's soccer teams couldn't produce a score. But with just two minutes remaining, PCC sophomore defender Lisa Kelley broke through, giving the Lancers a 1-0 lead on her fifth goal of the season.

As quickly as Pasadena grabbed that advantage, it was gone. In the 90th and final minute, Long Beach's Denise Martinez sent a cross pass to an open Dennis Chaidez in front of the net as she beat PCC goalie Sarah Wallick for a dramatic tying goal. The game ended in a 1-1 tie in the South Coast Conference matchup.

The Lancers saw a four-game win streak end, but extended their undefeated streak to six matches (4-0-2). PCC is 5-1-2 and 1-0-1 in SCC play under first-year head coach Randy Lilavois. Long Beach improved to 3-3-3 and also is 1-0-1 in conference.

The match featured several scoring chances late in the game. With 11 minutes left, PCC's Mallory Gutierrez was stopped on a breakaway attempt by Long Beach goalie Sara Thatcher. In the 82nd minute, Martinez hit a shot that bounced off the crossbar over Wallick's head. Then in the 85th minute, Gutierrez fired a shot that Thatcher leaped and knocked away that kept it 0-0.

PCC failed to take advantage of being one player up over the final 48 minutes after a LBCC red card ejected Camila Veron late in the first half.

Kelley tied freshman Stephanie Hernandez for the team scoring lead. Freshman Wallick made two saves and has given the team a sharp duo along with sophomore Yvette Hernandez. The pair has combined to allow only 10 goals (one an own goal) in eight matches.

Pasadena enters the lion's den Tuesday, October 5 when it travels to face Cerritos College, a program that won state titles in 2007-2008, and currently is 8-1 overall. The conference match begins at 2 p.m.
