Van der Wyk 3rd Overall, Women 6th, Men 5th At Foothill Cross Country Meet
Tracee van der Wyk showed the all-state form she displayed as a freshman Friday as she placed third overall in helping the Pasadena City College women's cross country team take sixth out of 12 teams at the Foothill Invitational meet held at Ontario's Cucamonga-Gusti Regional Park.
The sophomore Lancer ran a time of 18:04 in the 5-kilometer race as 108 runners participated. Mt. San Antonio's Jasmin Pina placed first overall at 17:39 while Glendale College won the team competition.
After van der Wyk, Elizabeth Lyons paced PCC in 38th (20:24), Cassandra Lew was 41st (20:39) and Marissa Morales took 43rd (20:45). Natasha Nicholson placed 56th at 22:02. PCC Head Coach Armand Crespo said that runner Raquele Cordozo fell and was injured during the race and did not finish despite being near the front of the pack in the top 10 at the time of her fall.
In the men's 4-mile race at the Foothill Invitational, the Lancers made their best showing of the season with Will Zentmyer's 16th place overall finish helping them secure fifth place out of 16 scoring teams.
Zentmyer, a sophomore, ran a time of 21:14 and he was followed in PCC order by Esteven Zarazua (38th, 22:30), Chris Le (39th, 22:32), Herminio Flores (40th, 22:34), and Enmanuel Vera (49th, 23:02). The Lancers had five runners make it into the top 50 out of 220 overall runners.
The Lancers harrier teams return to the course Saturday, October 9 at the SoCal Preview Meet held at East Mission Bay Park in San Diego.
