Emirzian's 2 Goals Help Men's Soccer Tie El Camino, 2-2
In his first 30 collegiate matches spanning last year and this season, sophomore forward Aram Emirzian had not recorded a point for the Pasadena City College men's soccer team. But on Tuesday in the rain at Robinson Stadium, Emirzian would score both of PCC's goals in the second half as the Lancers pulled out a 2-2, South Coast Conference tie against El Camino College.
Tied 0-0 after one half, the Lancers struck for the game's first goal less than in a minute into the second half. Reserve forward Brandon Flores streaked down the left side then sent a short cross pass to a waiting Emirzian who fired in his first collegiate goal for a 1-0 PCC lead.
El Camino answered with a penalty kick goal by Michael Tostado-Moreno in the 57th minute, then took a 2-1 lead on Brian Llamas' goal from three yards out on a pass from John Chavez in the 72nd minute.
PCC defender Elio Anguiano took a knee-to-knee hit from Chavez inside the Warriors' goalie box, resulting in a penalty kick. Emirzian (from Mountain View High) calmly lined a shot into the far right corner for the tying goal with only seven minutes left in regulation play.
Anguiano played well defensively, blocking two shots and breaking up one other ECC scoring opportunity. However, it was his takedown of Warriors' forward Aric Morales that resulted in El Camino's penalty kick first goal. Enrique Miranda and Jordan Brooksher also had strong defensive outings for the Lancers.
Lancers' goalie Jorge Cervantes made five saves as did El Camino goalie Blessing Ngwa.
In a game played October 15 at East Los Angeles College, the Lancers suffered a 3-0 loss to the Huskies.
PCC is 5-3-5 overall and 2-2-3 in conference play while ECC is 7-4-3 and 1-4-2 in South Coast games. The Lancers next travel to play El Camino College-Compton Center Friday, October 22 in a 4 p.m. conference match. PCC defeated Compton, 2-1, in the SCC opener on Sept. 28.
