Pasadena City College's Tracee van der Wyk placed second overall in the women's race and Wil Zentmyer took third in the men's race at the South Coast Conference Cross Country Championships held Friday morning at Mt. San Antonio College.

Van der Wyk, a sophomore, finished one place higher than a year ago as she has established her mark as the finest women's cross country runner in PCC history. She raced a time of 18 minutes, 20 seconds over the 3-mile course. Only Danielle Low was faster at 17:37 in helping Los Angeles Trade Tech College win its first-ever SCC team title.

The Lancers placed fifth as a team with 120 points. Following van der Wyk's finish for PCC were freshman Elizabeth Lyons in 19th (20:17), sophomore Marissa Morales in 28th (20:46), freshman Cassandra Lew in 36th (21:24), and freshman Natasha Nicholson in 46th (23:09). Overall, 56 runners from eight colleges participated.

In the men's 4-mile race, sophomore Wil Zentmyer placed third among 83 conference runners with a time of 21:18. Zentmyer had the highest PCC finish since Mario Cobian also took third place overall at the 2004 championships. He is the first All-SCC finisher for the Lancers since Joaquin Gomez (6th place) in 2006.

Zentmyer increased his placing by 13 spots from his freshman 16th place showing at the 2009 SCC Championships. Like the women's team, the Lancers' men came in fifth place.

After Zentmyer for the Lancers were freshman Esteven Zarazua in 28th place (23:21), sophomore Herminio Flores in 38th (23:45), sophomore Alejandro Esparza in 40th (23:52),  freshman Oscar Hernandez in 59th (25:08), freshman Gilbert Ramirez in 63rd (25:29), and freshman Danny Verdin in 70th (26:14).

David Cardona won the men's race at 20:32 and helped El Camino College win its second straight SCC team title.

The PCC teams take part next Saturday, Nov. 6 in  the Southern California Championships at East Mission Bay Park in San Diego.
