Hogue Adds To Record Career Saves Total at PCC Mini WWP Tourney
While the Pasadena City College women's water polo team didn't develop quite where the Lancers had hoped, the squad played hard and with heart during Friday's Pasadena Mini Tournament at the Aquatic Center.
PCC rallied and went to the final seconds before falling v. Santa Monica, 7-6, and gave the top Western State Conference team Ventura College a battle before losing, 8-3. The Lancers are 6-18 overall.
Prior to the Ventura contest, the team recognized its sophomores, Hannah Hogue, Anneke Forrest, Nicole Young, Brianna Estrada, and Darly Htike, in a pre-game tribute.
Against Santa Monica, PCC trailed 6-3 before putting on a furious rally to tie it 6-6. Htike scored with 3:17 left to cut it to 6-5, then Fernanda Camacho pocketed her second goal of the match with just 36 seconds left to knot it 6-6. However, SMC responded with a goal by Mia Sorenson with just 3.9 seconds to go for the game-winning tally. Hogue's desperation long range shot attempt at the buzzer was blocked by Corsairs' goalie Nicole Yatim.
Forrest added a goal, assist and four steals. Hogue made four saves.
Against Ventura, Camacho again scored a pair of goals while Forrest was all over the pool with a goal, one assist and a team-best five steals. Hogue again played like the All-Southern California selection performance she had as a freshman by making seven saves and adding three steals. Hogue is the school's record setter for saves in a season (277 last year) and for a career, now at 477.
PCC will next play Rio Hondo College Wednesday, Nov. 3 in a 2:30 p.m. conference match at Palm Park Pool in Whittier. The Lancers conclude the 2010 season Nov. 5-6 in the South Coast Conference Tournament held at Cerritos College.
