Women's VB Gains 4th Playoff Seed, Hosts No. 13 Moorpark Tuesday

The Pasadena City College women's volleyball team earned the No. 4 seed in today's regional playoff coaches meeting held at PCC. The Lancers will host No. 13 Moorpark College Tuesday, Nov. 23 in a 6 p.m. first-round match of the 2010 Southern California Regional Playoffs. The match will be played at PCC's Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

Pasadena, last year's No. 1 South seed, takes a 20-4 overall record into a match against the Co-Western State Conference North Divison champion Raiders (14-7 record).  PCC took second place in the South Coast Conference and its four losses came against selected No. 2 seed Los Angeles Pierce (twice) and No. 3 El Camino (twice in conference play). The Lancers are 28-2 in SCC play since the start of 2009.

PCC has pre-conference victories over No. 1 seed Cypress, No. 5 Santa Barbara City (twice), No. 7 Orange Coast, No. 12 College of the Canyons, No. 14 Mt. San Antonio (twice), and No. 15 Long Beach City (twice). Moorpark went 9-1 in WSC play, including a win over co-champ Santa Barbara. Long Beach is the only other seeded team that Moorpark defeated.

Pasadena made it to last year's second round of regionals, beating Antelope Valley in Round 1 and losing to Bakersfield in Round 2. If PCC gets by Moorpark, the Lancers would host a Round 2 contest against the winner of Santa Barbara v. No. 12 Canyons on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m..

Fourth-year PCC Head Coach Tammy Silva has directed the Lancers to the postseason in each of the past three years after the squad did not reach the playoffs previously from 2002-2007.
