Sports in the NewsRose City Classic Changes To Round-Robin Event Dec. 17-19
The 13th Rose City Classic women's basketball tournament at Pasadena City College has taken on a twist that is expected to only affect this year's event. Because of a late drop by an intended participant, PCC Head Coach Joe Peron was forced to turn the usual eight-team tourney into a round-robin, six-team affair. The Lancers will host nine games over three days from Friday, Dec. 17 through Sunday, Dec. 19 at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium. No team champion will be crowned according to Peron, who said there will be a MVP and all-tournament team chosen. The Rose City Classic schedule is as follows: Friday, Dec. 17: Rio Hondo v. West Los Angeles, 3 p.m; Ventura v. LA Southwest, 5 p.m.; Pasadena v. MiraCosta, 7 p.m. The Lancers had won 10 of the first 12 Rose City Classics, including last year's event. PCC (6-1 overall) is currently ranked No. 2 in the state poll. Ventura is the defending state champion, but rated No. 16 with a 5-4 record thus far in 2010. Prior to the Rose City Classic, the Lancers travel to face El Camino College in a 6 p.m., South Coast Conference game on Friday, Dec. 10.
