Great Scott: Center Leads Women's Basketball Past El Camino, 64-50

Great Scott: Center Leads Women's Basketball Past El Camino, 64-50 image

Last season as a freshman, center Dominique Scott led the Pasadena City College women's basketball team to the state quarterfinals. The 6-foot-2 post player was perhaps the team's most consistent performer as the All-South Coast Conference First Team selection averaged a double-double in points and rebounds.

With mostly a new cast of characters in 2010-2011, Scott is adjusting to playing with a different set of forwards. On Friday, Dec. 10, Scott put together the type of game that allows the Lancers to take control of their opponents. Scott poured in 20 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds as PCC defeated El Camino College, 64-50, in a SCC road game.

Scott, a Palisades High product, has helped the Lancers to a 7-1 start (2-0 in conference) this season and the current No. 2 spot in the state poll behind No. 1 Fullerton. Aiding Scott v. El Camino was freshman forward Marquetta Stokes with 15 points, and sophomore guard Anna Shahinian with 11 points. Tonisha Lacey added two points and seven rebounds.

Briana Hunt led El Camino (3-5, 0-3) with 15 points. PCC forced the Warriors into 25 turnovers, several that led to Pasadena baskets.

PCC next hosts the 13th Rose City Classic tournament Dec. 17-19 at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium. This year's format is a round-robin event with the Lancers opening against MiraCosta College on Friday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
