Sports in the NewsTime Management Works Well in Women's BB 83-55 Win Over MiraCosta
Pasadena City College women's basketball head coach Joe Peron knows what kind of depth he has on the 2010-2011 Lancers. With 15 players, though, making sure everyone gets significant minutes can be a challenge. On Friday in the first round of the 13th Rose City Classic Tournament, 12 PCC players were on the floor for at least 12 minutes of time and no Lancer played than 20 minutes in an 83-55 victory over MiraCosta College. The Lancers improved to 8-1 and host LA Southwest Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. This year's Rose City Classic is a round-robin affair between six teams. While no team champion will be crowned, there will be an all-tournament team chosen on Sunday. For the second straight game, sophomore center Dominique Scott performed a 20-15 as the 6-foot-1 post player scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action. Scott was 7-for-11 from the floor, 8-for-12 from the free throw line, and had time to dish out four assists. For MiraCosta (2-7), Bianca Padilla scored a team-high 18 points. In other first round games at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium Friday, Ventura downed LA Southwest, 62-50, and West Los Angeles edged Rio Hondo, 50-47.
