Playing without double-double performer and center Dominique Scott, the Pasadena City College women's basketball team didn't miss a beat in rocking host Los Angeles Southwest College, 80-47, Wednesday night in the Lancers' fourth straight South Coast Conference victory.

PCC, the state's No. 7 ranked team, had a strong shooting first half, making 19 of 34 field goal attempts and put the game away in the first 20 minutes, leading 48-22. The Lancers improved to 16-4 overall and remain in third place in the realigned, nine-team SCC at 6-2.

LA Southwest (7-13, 2-6) has current roster issues that resulted in having just four players on the floor for the game's final four minutes. Although seven players played, only five were around for the second half and that dropped to four when Aysha Lyons fouled out.

Without Scott, who is nursing an ankle injury, point guard Stephanie DeFrance went into scoring mode as she poured in a game-high 18 points. DeFrance scored the team's first three baskets and finished 7-for-12 from the floor. The sophomore added four steals and three assists. Fellow letterman and guard Anna Shahinian added 14 points, including three 3-pointers, and five assists.

Forward Marquetta Stokes was 5-for-6 from the field (layups) to score 10 points. PCC's most productive player off the bench was frosh center Melanie Samvalian, who scored eight points, grabbed eight rebounds, and was strong defensively with three steals.

Guard Desiree Strings showed strong playmaking with seven assists as well as scoring six points. Also with six points for the Lancers were guards Erica Steward and Vera Machado, and forward Destinee Sellers (and seven rebounds). First-year reserve center Bri'ale McCoy contributed four points and eight rebounds.

For LA Southwest, Donisha Miller scored 15 points and Jamie Robinson added 11.

PCC hosts Long Beach City College Friday, Jan. 21 in a 5 p.m. SCC game at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.
