Conference Home Losing Streak Now 10 Games For Men's Basketball
The South Coast Conference has removed home advantage from the Pasadena City College men's basketball team. For the second straight season, the Lancers did not win a single conference home game as El Camino College-Compton Center extended PCC's dubious streak of home defeats to 10 games with a 96-87 victory Friday night. PCC also lost for the eighth straight time at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium this season.
The Lancers (7-18, 2-10 in SCC play) have to go back to Feb. 11, 2009, or two years to the day, to find their last home conference victory, an 85-56 win over East Los Angeles College. PCC's last win on its home floor was in November during the Pasadena Tournament v. American Sports University. The Lancers finished 2-8 at home this season.
PCC led 40-32 during the first half before Compton went on a monster run that saw the Tartars take a 47-42 lead into intermission, then extend it to 60-42 with 16:48 left in the game on a Carthal McDonald layup. The 28-2 run included a stretch in which PCC did not score for more than eight minutes.
Pasadena rallied to cut it to 91-87 on a corner 3-pointer by Josh Johnson with 29.4 seconds remaining. However, Compton forward Andrew Haley sank four free throws in the final seconds to put the game out of reach. Haley scored a game-high 28 points, including making 10-for-10 at the line.
Johnson scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds before fouling out in the final minute. Shawn Hampton outdid Johnson barely in the PCC scoring department with 26 points as the sophomore guard added five assists and five rebounds. Center Marcus Harvey added a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds while guard Derrell Wallace contributed 10 points and three steals.
Nine players combined from the two teams scored in double figures. Compton's Sylvester Thomas poured in 20 points.
PCC closes the 2010-2011 season Wednesday Feb. 16 in a 7 p.m. game at East LA College.
