PCC Swimming Sends Strong Contingent To This Week's State Meet
The Pasadena City College men's and women's swim teams have qualified eight swimmers (five men, three women) for this week's CCCAA State Championships to be held April 28-30 at East Los Angeles College.
The Lancers men are in a position to finish high in the team standings as they qualified for all five of their relay teams. Sharif Alaoui, the defending state champ in the 200 freestyle (Crescenta Valley High), Baldwin Ngai (Temple City), Cario Liu (Temple City), and Andrew Genova (Gabrielino) will all participate at the state meet in various individual events. Tabrek Seyssel (Littlerock) is part of the PCC relay squads only.
On the women's side, the Lancers will send Mikela Velasquez (Burroughs High), two-event winner at the South Coast Conference Championships, Julia Warden (Crescenta Valley), and Courtney Jensen (Burbank) to the state meet.
PCC's swim teams are coached by Terry Stoddard, recently named the SCC Men's Coach of the Year for 2011.
STATE DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS MOVED TO PCC APRIL 28-29
Pasadena City College has been made the new site of the 2011 CCCAA State Diving Championships April 28-29 after state swimming meet host East Los Angeles College was determined not to have efficient equipment to hold this specialized event at its Monterey Park venue.
The PCC Aquatic Center will hold the diving events, 1-meter and 3-meter competition, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 and 1-to-5 p.m. on Friday, April 29.
Those who have purchased tickets for the state meet at ELAC will be admitted to the competition at PCC. Pasadena hosted the state swimming and diving championships back in 2006. For more information on this event, please contact the CCCAA at 916-444-1600.
