PCC Soccer Alum Kelley To Play For SemiPro LA Team At Robinson Stadium
Lisa Kelley, an All-South Coast Conference performer the past two seasons at Pasadena City College, will begin play this month for the Los Angeles Strikers FC, a new semipro women's soccer franchise that will be playing their home games at PCC's Robinson Stadium.
The Strikers are part of the United Soccer League or USL W-League, a developmental division that is made up of women's college players, top U.S. prep and club talents, and many international players.
Kelley was a defender for the Lancers, who played for PCC first-year head coach Randy Lilavois in the 2010 season after earning all-conference honors as a freshman in 2009.
Besides Kelley, Lilavois' assistant coach Eva Dixon also joined the roster of the Strikers for the 2011 season.
"This is a great opportunity for Kelley, who was easily one of our best players this past season," said Lilavois. "For those that have a goal to continue playing women's soccer past the college level, this league is where you can progress. I hope the league attracts a fan base here, which may translate to more visibility for our PCC program in the fall."
A seven-game schedule of home games at Robinson Stadium begins Thursday, May 18 in a 7 p.m. match against the Victoria Highlanders.
